Consultation
I have further developed my work with adults in the field of Mental Health with Turning Point, Lothian Recovery Network and Glasgow Association for Mental Health. GAMH wanted to try using Storytelling as a consultative tool with people who had recovered from an episode of Mental Ill Health focusing particularly on Stigma. I worked successfully with a group of 13 women from Asian backgrounds who said that the Storytelling had helped them to tell that they weren’t alone with their struggles and so felt more able to speak about them in the group.
A report was produced which featured art work which the group produced alongside their personal stories. The report is entitled "Are You really Listening?" and is available from GAMH (arma.sayed@health.scot.nhs.uk). The Scottish Storytelling Centre employed me as a consultant in their recent program of Storytelling called "Artfull Stories."
This project offered stories as a aid to promoting well-being for people involved in psychiatric services.
